Up your online safety in just two minutes

Online safety is super important. And today, on Safer Internet Day, we're hoping you can help us help you make your Google Account even more secure.

Just complete a two-minute Security Checkup — seriously, we timed it — and once you're done, you'll get a permanent 2 gigabyte bump in your Google Drive storage. It's our way of saying thanks for looking out for number one (you, that is).

Please feel free to spread the word as well. Your friends will appreciate the reminder — and the extra Drive storage, too. ;-)

Happy Safer Internet Day!

5 Reasons Why Oversharing On Facebook Is A Bad Thing

I have a 'friend' on Facebook who recently posted a profile picture of herself skinny dipping in Ladakh. While I am all for individual freedom, I must admit I was shocked as an audience at the organic exhibit. Today, Facebook is making us see too much of people's lives - too much that we can puke with all that information. People are literally exposing their butts in public! Here's why it is a bad thing:

1. First The Shallow Reason: You Cloud Their Wall With Irrelevant Info About Yourself

What is your #OOTD (Google that!), when are you lusting for a red velvet cupcake (girls especially), and where and who did you drink with last night are basically you using up my Facebook Timeline space to self-glorify yourself. I like seeing your pics every once in a while, which possibly even makes me feel jealous about your great life, but every time? That's just too flashy and exhibitionistic!

2. Intellectualizing Facebook and Expressing Your Political Beliefs Is Mostly Pretentious

There is a new wave of Facebook activism in India, where people post ten liner statuses about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyanan, but still litter the roads when they step out in real life; where men diss sexism in all its forms, using fancy adjectives and all that - and yet hurl denigrating remarks at the woman who chose to wear super-short clothes in the metro. Every time a politician makes a political gaffe, we see statuses of at least 10 Facebook activists ripping him apart, using copy-pasted arguments that were stated earlier by the media. The reality is - we don't need people telling us over and over that politicians suck! We know it enough already!

3. Negative Press: When Things Go South, Don't Post! You Look Like A Brooding Dog

In an extension to the previous point, if you have faced any misgivings in the past, posting about them on this networking site will, unfortunately, not make it cathartic. For instance, someone posted a sentimental status on how much she was missing her mom, while a woman on her friend list snarkily labeled her attention-seeking in a chat with another friend. True, the catharsis of posting those sad quotes only makes people lonelier in the end. Because the internet doesn't elicit the warm, comforting embrace that posters seek. Because the internet is a cold place, mostly.

5. Let There Be Some Mystery About You

If your friends know everything about you through Facebook and Twitter, why would they take time out for you? They already know where you are working, whether you are Right Wing or Left Wing, what colors you like, who are your best pals, what's your favorite drink...Instead, be a little mysterious. Don't share everything on Facebook. Let only special people in on those precious thoughts and funny humour.

Things You Didn’t Know You Can Do With Google Drive

Since its introduction, Google Drive has changed the way we work around in Gmail. It is not only time saving, but also lets us organize our emails in a far better way than we used to. If you are getting accustomed to using drive or are already pretty good using it, here are seven things you didn’t know you can do with Google Drive.

1.Offline Spreadsheets

If your work calls for making a lot of spreadsheets, than this feature can be nothing less than a blessing for you. Updated last year, the new Google Drive spreadsheets have new functions like Averageif (which gives you the average of specified cells), and unlimited cells, formulas and columns. The best new feature is that you can even create, edit or modify these spreadsheets without an internet connection. You can simply log in and make a spreadsheet and as soon as you get a connection, you can put it across.

2.Keyboard Shortcuts For The Entire Gmail

You might know about general keyboard shortcuts, but chances are that you might still be unaware of Gmail shortcuts. Well, to ease you out, here is how to get Gmail shortcuts – just press “Shift +?” and there you go, a window will appear displaying all the shortcuts that are enabled and disabled.

3.Customize Priority Settings: Control Who Sees What

Many people believe that Drive’s content is visible to all. That is true but you can very much control its visibility according to your priorities. You can limit your content’s visibility to the people whom you wish to see your content.

4.Surpass 25MB Attachment Limit

As you already know Gmail’s attachment size limit tops out at 25MB. But luckily we can use Google Drive to attach much bigger files. To do this, click on the small Drive icon while composing an email, and select your attachment. Also, when you receive a big attachment, you can save it straight to your Drive. There appears a save to drive option when you hover on the attachment.

5.See How Many Times Your Document Has Been Revised

Yes, this is also possible. There is array of photo cropping and editing options built in the drive. From regular crop options like square, rectangle etc, there are also a few interesting options.

6.Crop Photos

7.Track Drive Activities

If you are curious to know what all activities are going down in your Drive, just hit the “I” icon on the top right corner.
